All About Try Engineering Summer Institute
Discover how we empower students to pursue their future in engineering
Who are we?
TryEngineering Summer Institute is a partnership between IEEE and the National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC).
IEEE is the world’s largest professional association for the advancement of technology. Our 500K global members, including more than 180,000 student members, support our mission worldwide. They help us provide a trusted “voice” for engineering, computing and technology information around the globe. We share this knowledge via highly-cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities.

How do we do it?
Each summer, the TryEngineering Summer Institute brings students together for immersive nine‑day engineering sessions hosted on leading college and university campuses. Our co‑ed program welcomes high school students ages 14–17 from around the world to:

engage in hands-on design challenges

experience the work firsthand with behind-the-scenes tours with real-life engineers

discover not just what’s happening today, but what’s coming tomorrow, through conversations with renowned guest speakers and incredible counselors
Our History
The Summer Institute is a program of TryEngineering.org, launched in 2006 through a collaboration between IEEE, IBM, and the New York Hall of Science. TryEngineering’s mission is to equip teachers to teach engineering in the classroom, spark interest in engineering careers, expand access to high‑quality STEM resources, and show students how engineering can shape their future.
The NSLC is proud to partner with IEEE and the IEEE TryEngineering Summer Institute to foster the next generation of technology innovators through hands‑on, interdisciplinary engineering education that empowers students to solve real‑world challenges.
