#1 Beautiful Campus: The Princeton Review
The University of San Diego is a beautiful place to be. It’s one of the most common ways for people to express their fondness when they’re on campus and they’re asked about the institution. USD is the youngest independent institution on the U.S. News & World Report list of top 100 universities in the United States. USD's small class sizes, compassionate culture, unique learning opportunities, study-abroad opportunities and state-of-the-art resources ensure that graduates of our undergraduate and graduate programs succeed after graduation and throughout their lives.

Local Tours and Attractions
Where have past Summer Institute students visited?
The Aerospace Corporation – Previous students toured the only federally funded research and development center committed exclusively to space related technologies. We toured the Los Angeles headquarters and visited with engineers and scientists who are working on innovative research projects such as asteroid defense, new spacecraft propulsions systems, human space programs and many others.
Guardian Jet Center – We toured this Fixed Based Operator (FBO) located at Ontario Airport in Southern California. We visited the hangar facilities and learned how engineers and technicians maintain and upgrade modern corporate jets. We also had an opportunity to meet with the airport’s chief engineer and other key personnel to learn how technology keeps the aviation industry safe and efficient.
What can Summer Institute students expect for weekend activities?
There are plenty of fun things to do in the San Diego region, but nothing can help you beat the summer heat and unwind after a long week of engineering like a day at the beach or getting tacos! We will be taking advantage of all of the sights and sounds as we develop a day trip for Saturday that will knock your socks off! The details of this day will be developed as we get closer to camp and see how the summer is shaping up.
On Sunday, we like to keep it local and make use of all the great facilities on campus. There is a great outdoor pool, where students can cool off and work on their tan; others can utilize all available facilities, just like regular college kids do during the year. It's a wonderful dzy to see just what it's like living at college. We'll spend the rest of the day relaxing, catching up on laundry, and recharging for the exciting week ahead!
