TryEngineering Summer Institute

An exciting two-week, on-campus engineering camp for high school students held at three premier universities across the United States in 2019.

TryEngineering Summer Institute is postponed until Summer 2022

All of us at the TryEngineering Summer Institute hope that you and your family are doing well, and staying safe in this evolving climate.

We have been closely monitoring the guidance of health and government officials with regards to Coronavirus (COVID-19) in making decisions about the TryEngineering Summer Institute this year. While we were very much hoping that conditions would allow for us to hold our program this summer, unfortunately we have determined that given the current situation, we must postpone the TryEngineering Summer Institute until Summer 2022. The health and safety of our students is our first priority. We are also concerned that based on the unknowns for the next few months, we may not be able to confirm learning spaces, field trips, guest speakers and more, which means we would not be able to create the great experience and impact that are the aims of our program.

We know that this is disappointing (we’re disappointed too!) However, we want to encourage you to continue exploring engineering, and all of the potential it might hold for your future. Engineers are at the forefront of the pandemic, creating technologies and solutions that are helping scientists and medical professionals on the front lines.

Here are some resources that will help you continue to explore engineering.

  • TryEngineering Summer Institute Blog. We post great, free resources available all over the web on the TESI blog to help you discover the fun of engineering. From virtual field trips to coding challenges to robots, there are many ways that you can TryEngineering, and have a great time doing it!
  • TryEngineering.org. Discover games, lesson plans, and other activities to help you discover the fun of engineering.
  • Explore Engineering Fields. The TryEngineering.org website from IEEE also profiles Engineering, Computing, and Technology fields, and gives you insight on careers, coursework, and links to learn more.

We know many of you may be interested in a virtual version of the TryEngineering Summer Institute. We have looked at being able to provide this opportunity in detail. Unfortunately, the nature of our student experience requires so much hands on and teamwork, we would not be able to create the same great learning experiences that are available in our in person format. As such we will not be conducting virtual versions of the Summer Institute.

Thank you again for choosing TryEngineering Summer Institute. We hope that you will consider us again next year. Remember to continue your exploration of engineering and technology. Engineers can change the world!
